Rheine (dpa / lnw) - A senior has choked his wife to the point of unconsciousness and then drove a car into a tree.
He was killed.
After the attack on the woman on Saturday in Rheine in Münsterland, he assumed that the 77-year-old was dead.
Then the 79-year-old "apparently deliberately, with suicidal intent" caused the accident, said chief prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt, according to a statement on Saturday.
The 77-year-old wife suffered serious injuries.
Investigations into the background and the motive were now underway.
