Berlin (dpa / bb) - The registered corona infection rate at the Berlin fire brigade is twice as high as the average for the population.

So far, 259 cases of infection have been recorded, 35 of which are current, said the fire department.

This affected 5.8 percent of the 4,500 fire brigade employees.

Of the almost 3.8 million Berliners, around 2.9 percent (112,000) have so far been recorded as infected.

The health authorities ordered quarantine for 621 firefighters and rescue workers.

31 employees are currently affected.

Since Wednesday, paramedics and emergency doctors from the fire brigade have been vaccinated against the corona virus by mobile teams from the Senate Health Administration. This professional group has a lot of contact with other people and cannot avoid it. A double-digit number of voluntary vaccinations are planned every day. First of all, it is the turn of the emergency services, who mainly take care of sick and injured people. A vaccination of all members of the fire brigade was then planned for later, it said.
