The outgoing US President Donald Trump wants to leave the capital Washington on the morning of the inauguration of his successor Joe Biden.

Trump wants to fly hours before Biden's swearing-in to his club Mar-a-Lago in Florida, where he wants to live in the future, as a government official confirmed on Friday.

Trump announced a few days ago on Twitter that he would not attend the inauguration ceremony for his successor Biden.

Trump's presence at the ceremony would be political, but it has no legal effect.

Biden is sworn in as the new president even without his predecessor.

The Washington Post wrote that Trump was instead planning a farewell ceremony for himself on the military airfield outside Washington, from where the government aircraft Air Force One takes off.

That has never happened in this form, it said in the report.

Fox News reported that Trump also wants to take several White House employees to Florida, where he has his club resort Mar-a-Lago.

Trump's deputy Mike Pence has recently taken on public tasks in connection with the upcoming swearing-in.

Biden had explicitly invited Pence to the inauguration - according to US media, Pence also wants to participate.

On Thursday, Trump's deputy met with the heads of several security agencies to find out about security at the ceremony.

On Friday, US media reported unanimously, citing unspecified sources, that Pence also called the future US Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday to congratulate her on her election victory and - belatedly - to offer her direct support in handing over office.
