With less than a week from the end of his term, President Trump is going all the way in his fight against Chinese companies.

President Trump intends to use his tenure to the end

to impose sanctions against Chinese industry.

One of the latest is the addition of Xiaomi to the blacklist of investments for US capital.

Previous bans came from the Commerce Department, this time the ban came from the Defense Ministry, which views Xiaomi as a Communist military enterprise.

Like the eight other companies on this blacklist, the Defense Department accuses the telephone specialist of having links with the Chinese military.

Xiaomi, which overtook Apple in 2020

, became the world's third-largest smartphone maker, is one of the biggest Chinese companies to be on this blacklist.

This sanction, if implemented, will not only deprive Xiaomi of American funding but will curb its imports of technological equipment essential to the manufacture of its smartphones, which will weaken its international competitiveness.

Beijing denounces an “abuse of power” by the United States, and awaits the transfer of power to the White House.

If Joe Biden's government cancels this sanction, it will in this case become a symbolic measure.
