Munich (dpa / lby) - The working group of the Bavarian teachers' associations (abl) has spoken out against the cancellation of the carnival holidays and pleaded for a postponement.

"In view of an impending mega-lockdown, the decision to cancel the winter holidays is becoming more and more questionable for representatives of all types of schools," said Realschullehrerverband, Philologenverband and the Catholic Educational Community on Friday.

"A legal review is not excluded."

Instead of deleting it, a postponement to the currently planned end of distance learning should be checked.

If the distance lessons take longer, a break in mid-February is all the more important, emphasized the teacher representatives.

"The Bavarian State Parliament introduced the winter holidays in 2002 on the grounds that during the longest teaching phase, the holidays result in a small but educationally sensible break that gives the students the opportunity to draw new strength and to close gaps," argued abl -Chairman Pankraz Little Man. "And now politicians are canceling this vacation in the middle of the pandemic, at this particularly stressful and exhausting time."
