Bonn / Munich (dpa) - For the National Anti-Doping Agency, the judgment of the Munich Regional Court in the doping trial against Erfurt doctor Mark S. is “a milestone” with a signal effect.
"It shows more than clearly that doping is the wrong way," said Nada CEO Andrea Gotzmann.
"For the first time, a doctor who works in competitive sports and his supporters are sentenced to a sometimes severe imprisonment and a professional ban under the Anti-Doping Act."
Systematic doping in competitive sport is anything but a trivial offense.
"It is important to see that the anti-doping law applies."
The physician Mark S. has been sentenced to four years and ten months in prison and a three-year professional ban for doping.
In the first major criminal case in Germany since the anti-doping law was introduced in 2015, the court also found Mark S.'s four helpers guilty.
