Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - With millions in aid from the federal government, all-day care for primary school children in after-school care centers and schools is to be improved.

In a first step, 20.637 million euros are now available for Saxony-Anhalt, announced the Ministry of Social Affairs in Magdeburg on Friday.

The modernization and expansion of premises as well as new furniture and measures for improved hygiene conditions would be funded.

The aim of the federal program are additional childcare places and an improved quality of the offers.

The money must be spent by the end of 2021.

“Saxony-Anhalt is already well positioned when it comes to all-day care.

The investments of the federal government ensure the further qualitative expansion of our offers », said Minister of Social Affairs Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD).

High-quality childcare opens the door to successful educational paths.

For parents, it is a matter of improving the compatibility of family and work.

Education Minister Marco Tullner (CDU) also expects that investments in all-day educational offers will trigger a further boost.

“Our primary schools will also benefit from the opportunity to invest in after-school care centers.”

At the federal level, it was agreed in the coalition agreement that a legal right to all-day care for primary school children will be introduced from 2025.

This has been around for a long time in Saxony-Anhalt, which is why, according to the ministry, the focus is on expanding quality instead of creating new places.
