Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) has appealed to his party to treat each other fairly after the election party conference.
"It is important that we as the CDU are closed after the election and that we gather behind the new party chairman - regardless of who of the three applicants makes the race," said Hans of the Düsseldorf "Rheinische Post" (Friday).
The real sporting competition is still to come - the federal elections in autumn this year.
The CDU elects a new party leader this Saturday.
In addition to the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Armin Laschet, ex-Union parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz and foreign politician Norbert Röttgen are also applying for the CDU chairmanship.
The online party conference officially begins with 1001 delegates on Friday evening.
Hans went on to say: “All three candidates have shown in the last few weeks that they can treat each other fairly in terms of tone, style and content.
