Erdogan confirmed that Ankara will continue to discuss S-400-related issues with Washington after the new US President Joe Biden takes office.

“No country will determine our steps in national defense, they are completely dependent on our own decisions ... I don’t know what Biden will say, but in any case we will not take any permission from anyone,” RIA Novosti quotes him.

The Turkish leader added that at the end of January, negotiations will be held with the Russian side on the supply of the second batch of S-400.

Earlier, Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that Ankara does not intend to abandon the S-400.

At the end of December 2020, Turkey and the United States established a joint working group on the S-400.

On December 14, the United States announced the imposition of sanctions against Turkey over Ankara's acquisition of the S-400.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the US decision is not a surprise - it is the use of illegitimate measures "left and right."
