Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - All 60,000 corona vaccination appointments for seniors over the age of 80 in Hesse have been taken.

These citizens can get vaccinated against the coronavirus at the six regional vaccination centers in the country from January 19.

Older people who were already successfully registered in the registration process but who could not get an appointment will, according to the Interior Ministry from Friday in Wiesbaden, be saved.

However, the appointment allocation could only start again when further vaccine deliveries arrive in Hesse.

When that will be is still unclear.

The corona vaccination is to begin on Tuesday (January 19) next week at the vaccination sites in Kassel, Gießen, Fulda, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt.

According to the information, the important second vaccination then takes place in the same vaccination center as the first vaccination, usually about three weeks later.

In total, more than 400,000 people aged 80 and over are eligible for a vaccination appointment in Hesse.

The allocation of vaccination appointments for those over 80 years of age was accompanied by massive technical disruptions via the Internet and the telephone hotline.

Due to the huge rush for the dates, there were very long waiting times until the end.

In Hesse there are already vaccinations for residents and employees in old people's and nursing homes as well as staff in corona intensive care units.
