Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church has been vaccinated against the new coronavirus and is calling for it as an "ethical act."

A spokesman for the Roman Curia revealed on the 14th that Pope Francis, 84, and Pope Benedict XVI, 93, who had been abdicated in 2013 by the former Pope, were vaccinated.

Although the exact time of receiving the vaccination has not been disclosed, the Vatican began vaccination of medical personnel and the elderly from the 13th.

Pope Francis, who is known to have had a part of his lungs removed due to illness when he was young, said in a media interview, "Everyone is at risk not only for their own health and life but also for the lives of others. It's an ethical act to do, "he said, calling for vaccination.

Last month's Christmas message also called for cross-country cooperation to ensure that everyone, whether developed or developing, is vaccinated.
