Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The state of Baden-Württemberg wants to decide today on the reopening of primary schools and daycare centers from next week.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and Education Minister Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) want to announce in the morning whether the corona lockdown will be relaxed.

Kretschmann had recently been skeptical because the number of infections was not yet reliably falling.

Eisenmann, who is also the CDU top candidate for the state election, is vehemently pushing for an opening in the interests of children.

She actually wanted to open primary schools and daycare centers last Monday - “regardless of the incidence figures”.

Kretschmann and Eisenmann wanted to consult with virologists, epidemiologists and pediatricians via video on Wednesday evening. With a relaxation, Baden-Württemberg, which has a strict Corona course in many areas, would take a special route. At the beginning of the year, the federal and state governments extended the lockdown to schools and daycare centers until the end of January. However, the Länder are responsible for educational policy and can use their leeway here. Distance learning is available in secondary schools in the southwest until the end of January. Exceptions apply to graduating classes.
