Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The corona pandemic is also messing up the schedule of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania CDU for the preparation of the state and federal elections this year.

According to Secretary General Wolfgang Waldmüller, the state executive of the party agreed on Thursday evening to postpone the state party convention planned for January 30 in Schwerin to draw up the lists of candidates.

The reason given was the persistently high number of infections in the country.

“As soon as the epidemic situation permits, we will convene our general meeting of state representatives.

At the moment, the focus is on health, protection and the fight against the coronavirus, ”explained Waldmüller after the video conference.

The current state corona ordinance prohibits public and non-public events, gatherings and gatherings, in particular large events.

However, there is an exception with strict hygiene requirements for “statutory events and meetings of clubs, associations and parties”.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the state parliament and the Bundestag will be re-elected on September 26th.

According to the CDU, the direct candidates of the Union have already been determined in 5 of the 6 Bundestag constituencies and in 35 of 36 Landtag constituencies.

Top places on the state lists are coveted because if the party as a whole has a good election result, they can also help applicants to a mandate who were unable to win the constituency.
