Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - While the churches had closed over Christmas, the first face-to-face services are to take place again in Mannheim.

"We all feel and know how serious the situation is, which is why we as a church in Mannheim always have to keep an eye on the protection of people," said the Catholic Dean Karl Jung on Thursday.

Strict protection concepts therefore continue to apply to the first services in the selected Protestant and Catholic churches in Mannheim.

So there are hygiene and ventilation concepts, it said.

In addition to the mask requirement, the limited number of participants and the minimum distances, the avoidance of singing is one of the protective measures.

The first services in the churches should take place from Sunday until the end of January.

The respective communities decided that independently.
