Gizeh (dpa) - For national coach Alfred Gislason only one win counts in the World Cup opening game of the German handball players against Uruguay on Friday (6 p.m. / ARD).

"The game against Uruguay - as well as the second against Cape Verde - we have to win and use it to improve our skills and develop tactical variants in attack and defense," said Gislason the day before the game at the German team hotel in Giza.

The 61-year-old Icelander, who took over the post almost a year ago and is about to make his World Cup debut as a coach, is eager to start the tournament like the entire team.

«I'm really happy that it finally starts and we're playing.

That's what we're here for, that's what we all enjoy the most, "said Gislason.

Against Uruguay, it will be important "that we make few mistakes in attack and not be impressed by their aggressive defense," said director Philipp Weber from the Bundesliga club SC DHfK Leipzig.

"If we go through with our plan, we will win."
