Ditzingen (dpa / lsw) - The driver of a dangerous goods transporter trusted his navigation device, but that led to a road closure in Ditzingen and a delicate rescue operation.

The 61-year-old driver of the semitrailer actually wanted to go to Höfingen.

But his navigation device led him to the Tonmühle area near Ditzingen.

The man could no longer cross a bridge there because of the weight of his tractor-trailer, as a police spokesman reported on Thursday.

When trying to drive backwards, the left side of the vehicle came off the road.

The trailer truck, which had ammonium chloride loaded in a tank, got stuck in the wet ground on Wednesday evening and tilted sideways.

There was a risk that the dangerous goods transporter would continue to sag, the spokesman reported.

The vehicle could be secured with the help of a special device.

For recovery, however, the loaded liquid must be pumped into another tank in order to reduce the weight.

A special vehicle is on its way from Ludwigshafen to the scene of the accident.
