Berlin (dpa / bb) - The first Berlin vaccinees will receive the necessary second dose against the corona virus in a few days.

"We will start with the second vaccination in Berlin on Monday," said Mario Czaja, President of the Berlin Regional Association of the German Red Cross, on the RBB information radio on Thursday.

In the vaccination center in the arena hall in Treptow, more than 1000 people are expected to be vaccinated per day, currently 800 to 900.

This Thursday, the city's second vaccination center opens in the Erika-Heß-Eisstadion in Wedding.

Contrary to what was planned, the vaccine from Biontech and Pfizer will initially be administered there too.

"There was a problem in the thawing process of the Moderna vaccine," said CDU politician Czaja.

According to the health administration, the quality is not affected, so the Moderna vaccine should also be used from Friday.

Despite some difficulties, Czaja drew a positive balance of the vaccination campaign so far.

"On the whole, things are going very, very well for Berlin," he said.

In some cases, people who were vaccinated did not show up for the appointment, and some very old people needed help making appointments.

The teams in the centers are well coordinated.

"What is missing is additional vaccine."
