Dresden (dpa / sn) - Corona crisis and African swine fever (ASP) are currently causing problems for farmers in Saxony.

On the one hand, the closure of restaurants and hotels could mean that less meat could be sold, said the president of the state farmers' association, Torsten Krawczyk, on Thursday.

In addition, the pig farmers had problems selling their meat abroad because of swine fever.

Some countries have imposed an import ban on pork from Germany.

Krawczyk spoke of a "pig jam" in the Saxon stables, the prices for one kilogram of pork had halved within a year to the current 1.19 euros per kilogram.

"The majority of Saxon pig farmers will find themselves in dire straits," feared Krawczyk.
