Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The security deposit of 100 million euros for the construction of the Tesla plant in Grünheide without a final building permit is still outstanding.

Brandenburg's Environment Minister Axel Vogel (Greens) said on Wednesday in the Environment Committee: "We are in coordination talks and are examining the current offer".

He cannot say exactly what that will look like at the moment.

The US electric car maker had been set until Saturday (January 15) to deposit the security deposit.

It is intended for possible dismantling costs at the Grünheide site.

Tesla wants to start operating its first European electric car plant in Grünheide near Berlin from summer 2021.

In the first phase, around 500,000 vehicles per year are to be produced there.

Conservationists and residents fear negative consequences for the environment.

The department head in the Ministry of the Environment, Axel Steffen, added to the committee that there is a “large bouquet of conceivable possibilities” how a security can be provided.

Tesla underestimated that it is “not that easy” with its proposals for implementation.

He was convinced that there should be a solution this week.

In December, Tesla had not deposited the security deposit of 100 million euros required by the state on time.

It was intended for early approval for further clearing of forest and the installation of machines for the paint shop.

Initially, work was suspended.

But Tesla was able to continue building because, according to the Ministry of the Environment, Brandenburg had agreed with the company on an extended deadline of January 15.

In a letter of comfort, Tesla guaranteed the country security for all early permits for construction work.

The time for the final approval of the construction of the Tesla factory by the country is still unclear.

"The State Office for the Environment checks everything in detail".

The environment minister said that it was about appropriate formulations and requirements.

Tesla is already building at its own risk with currently eight early approvals.

Another application from Tesla is currently being examined, according to Vogel.

The Nabu Fürstenwalde and the Association for Nature and Landscape Brandenburg called for the abolition of the possibility of early approval for construction steps according to the relevant Federal Immission Control Act.
