Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The hospitality industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had to accept a drop in sales of 76.9 percent compared to November 2019 due to the Corona lockdown in November.

The accommodation businesses suffered the most, with a minus of 89.6 percent, according to data published by the State Statistical Office in Schwerin on Wednesday.

The restaurants lost 71.8 percent of their sales - some tried to make some money with out-of-home sales.

In the first eleven months of the year combined, sales in the hospitality industry were 16.5 percent.

The accommodation businesses recorded a decrease of 17.8 percent, the restaurants by 12.7 percent.

The tourism industry was able to catch up a lot in late summer and early autumn.

In November and December, the hotels and pensions had to completely close again for tourism and restaurants due to Corona.

The number of employees in the hospitality industry in November was 11.7 percent below the previous year's level.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, according to the Dehoga industry association, almost two thirds of restaurateurs and hoteliers fear for their existence.

Although the catering establishments have been closed since the beginning of November, many have not received any November aid until today, the President of Dehoga MV, Lars Schwarz, said on Monday.

The situation of the operators of discos and clubs as well as the organizers is even worse, they had to close almost eleven months ago.

In addition to the promised November aid, the December aid that has also been announced is pending.

Without the promised help, the companies would run out of steam for good, said Schwarz.
