The government wants to invest almost SEK 200 million this year to stop incorrect payments from the welfare system - where the assistance industry is pointed out as particularly hard hit.

But the hunt for the unscrupulous and criminal actors results in those who are actually in need of assistance getting into trouble.

That is the opinion of Maria Persdotter, who is chairman of the Swedish Association for Disabled Children and Adolescents, RBU.

Sharp increase in recoveries

Figures, which SVT has taken note of, show that the Swedish Social Insurance Agency's recovery and damages linked to assistance compensation have increased sharply - from 133 million in 2019 to 464 million in 2020.

- It's great if you hunt cheaters, they should not exist.

But those who do it systematically and are criminals are very few.

The big problem in assistance is people who do not get what they are entitled to and need.

Especially children find it extremely difficult to get assistance, it is basically impossible, she says.
