Berlin / Hanover (dpa / lni) - Last year companies in Lower Saxony received permits for arms exports worth a good 1.2 billion euros.

This is the second highest value of all federal states, as can be seen from the response of the Federal Ministry of Economics to a request from the Bundestag member Sevim Dağdelen (Left).

Schleswig-Holstein ranks first with almost 1.5 billion euros.

According to the preliminary figures, Bavaria follows Lower Saxony with just under 1.14 billion.

In 2019, the value in Lower Saxony was significantly lower at just under 600 million.

Naval ships and armored vehicles are built in Lower Saxony.

Dağdelen criticized the arms exports from Germany.

"The federal states should finally promote the conversion of the arms industry to civilian production instead of dealing with death," said the member of the Bundestag.

The comparison with the previous year could not hide the high level of arms export permits.

Last year it was more than 5.8 billion euros nationwide, in 2019 it was a good 8 billion euros.
