Erfurt (dpa / th) - The party and parliamentary group leader of the Left, Susanne Hennig-Wellsow, is pushing for a decision on the date for the dissolution of the Thuringian state parliament and its new election.

"That should be decided by the four contractual partners Left, SPD, Greens and CDU on Thursday," said Hennig-Wellsow on Wednesday of the German Press Agency in Erfurt.

"The position of the left is that there must be new elections in 2021."

The left, which is the prime minister with Bodo Ramelow, has invited the four parties to a meeting.

So far it is planned to dissolve the state parliament in February in order to clear the way for its new election on April 25th.

In view of the high number of corona infections, however, there are doubts whether this schedule should be adhered to.

On Wednesday, Thuringia had the highest seven-day value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide with 324.

Ramelow has been ruling with a red-red-green minority government since March 2020, which is dependent on votes from the opposition CDU parliamentary group.

Last year, the Left, SPD, Greens and CDU reached an agreement to end a week-long government crisis that made it possible to pass the state budget in 2021.

The second step of the so-called stability pact of the four parliamentary groups provides for early elections at the end of April - in the hope of a clear majority in parliament.
