Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Whether scooters, racetracks, giant pirate ships or riddle books - many people took part in the Hamburg toy donation marathon for the needy.

This resulted in an “unbelievable 546 cubic meters of toys”, said project manager Daniel Fürstenberg.

In terms of volume, this corresponds to about eight large 40-foot sea containers.

They are about twelve meters long and two and a half meters high and wide.

The Hamburg Toys Company marathon was set up in cooperation with the city cleaning service and the White Ring.

The project has been around for 15 years.

The toys handed in were repaired and cleaned by employees of the Toys Company.

Around 50 people work in the Dekra Academy's social project in Hamburg who, after a long period of unemployment, are to be made fit for the first job market.

Children of the needy can look forward to the toys.

They are allowed to come by with their parents six times a year and choose up to ten toys.

Thanks to the donations and the work of the Toys Company, it was again possible "to make thousands of children's eyes shine, especially at Christmas," said Fürstenberg.

In 2020, due to the corona, fewer toys were sold than in 2019 - at that time it was almost 700 cubic meters.

The donations were much higher quality than in previous years.
