Hanover (dpa / lni) - After the allegedly politically motivated arson attacks on reception authorities in Braunschweig and Hanover, the Lower Saxony constitutional protection authorities are warning of radicalization among left-wing extremists.

"It is to be feared that parts of the left-wing extremist scene could develop into a new left-wing terrorism," said Lower Saxony's constitution protection president Bernhard Witthaut of the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Tuesday).

It should be noted that the scene in Lower Saxony as well as nationwide is growing and radicalizing.

A radicalization can be felt based on the number of actions and crimes that are attributed to the left-wing extremist scene.

Witthaut also included the arson attack on vehicles on the premises of the State Reception Authority (LAB) in Braunschweig last weekend.

This is indicated by a letter of confession.

Incendiary devices were also found on the building of the reception authority in Hanover-Langenhagen.

But these did not ignite.

"It is possible that structures are developing here that want to prevent deportations by all means," said Witthaut.

It is now also being examined to what extent four attacks from January 2019 in Göttingen could be related to the current attacks.

It is important, said the President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, to identify trends as early as possible.

For this purpose, the findings of the authorities in Lower Saxony should also be analyzed against the background of findings from other states and the federal government.
