Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A first tranche of the corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Moderna has reached North Rhine-Westphalia.

"Today 13,200 vaccine doses of the Moderna vaccine arrived in the North Rhine-Westphalian central warehouse," said a spokeswoman for the NRW Ministry of Health on Tuesday at the request of the German press agency.

The preparation from Moderna is the second approved vaccine alongside the product from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer.

For the time being, there should not be any choice of who gets which vaccine.

The vaccination against the coronavirus had started in North Rhine-Westphalia immediately after the Christmas holidays on December 27 with the Biontech vaccine.

The very first vaccination doses were injected into residential care facilities by mobile teams.

A list by the Federal Ministry of Health shows that further deliveries to the federal states are planned for the Moderna vaccine in the near future. After the first 63,600 cans at the start on Tuesday, a further 91,200 cans should come in the last week of January. Then 226,800 cans will follow in the week of February 8th and a further 674,400 cans in the week of February 22nd.
