Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) believes that the corona measures will be tightened in February in view of the continued high number of corona infections.

The numbers are not such that you can organize “a big opening concert”, said Kretschmann on Tuesday in Stuttgart.

"If it doesn't turn out well, we may even have to tighten it again."

Baden-Württemberg had done well with the previous strict course.

Kretschmann said the night exit restrictions were very effective.

"The night curfews will certainly not be relaxed, before that we will relax something else."

Exit restrictions between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. have been in effect in the southwest for weeks.

Kretschmann also turned against the request of the Mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer (also Greens), to loosen the corona measures on a broad front from February.

He is a "strict opponent" of acting independently of the number of infections.

"No responsible politician will do that," said the head of government.

"The red line is always the resilience of the healthcare system."

It is not yet clear whether primary schools and daycare centers can be opened next Monday as planned.

The numbers did not go down - "at least not reliable," said Kretschmann.

However, there is still no preliminary decision.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Education Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) want to agree on Thursday how to proceed with elementary schools and daycare centers.

Eisenmann vehemently urges an opening in the interests of younger children.

Distance learning is to be available in secondary schools until the end of January, although exceptions are planned for final classes.
