Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - Several tons of leaked, glowing steel have led to a fire in a Krefeld foundry with nine injured.

On Tuesday evening, rescue workers were called to the machine and systems manufacturer after an industrial accident had occurred there, as the fire brigade announced.

According to this, 10 to 15 tons of red-hot steel had flowed next to the corresponding mold during casting - the great heat caused several fires.

Two employees on two overhead cranes were able to save themselves seriously injured on the roof - there they were brought to safety by the fire brigade.

Five other employees suffered minor injuries as well as two firefighters.

The fire was extinguished after about two hours.

The amount of damage was initially unclear.
