Cottbus (dpa / bb) - According to the energy company Leag, the “Big Battery” power storage facility at the Schwarze Pump power plant has been in continuous operation since the beginning of the year.
The battery storage system has a usable capacity of 53 megawatt hours, the Leag announced on Tuesday.

According to Leag, 13 battery containers were built for the storage facility on an area roughly the size of a soccer field.
The conversion between DC voltage of the batteries and AC voltage for the power grid takes place in 13 associated so-called converter containers.
Depending on the situation in the power grid or on the power markets, the batteries can be charged or discharged.
The electricity mix from conventional and renewable energy sources is stored in them.
