Michendorf (dpa / bb) - On the Bundesstrasse 2 between Wilhelmshorst and Michendorf (Potsdam-Mittelmark), preparations are underway to defuse a World War II bomb.

The 250 kilogram bomb was discovered on Sunday in a forest area and examined by the ordnance disposal service, as the municipality of Michendorf announced on its website.

A spokeswoman for the Michendorf community said on request whether the bomb would have to be defused or even blown up.

First of all, the "Potsdam Latest News" reported.

An 800 meter restricted area was set up around the site.

Residents had to temporarily leave their houses and apartments.

How many exactly, the spokeswoman could not say at first.

A total of six streets in the Wilhelmshorst district had been partially evacuated.

According to the municipality, B2 must be temporarily closed to traffic while the bomb is being recovered.

The gym and individual classrooms in the Michendorf primary school are available to residents as alternative quarters for temporary evacuation.
