Cologne / Dormagen (dpa / lnw) - According to a media report, the Archdiocese of Cologne is withdrawing the threat of legal consequences against a critical pastor.

The process is “done” and “will not entail any further steps”, quoted the Kölner Stadtanzeiger from a letter from HR manager Mike Kolb to Pastor Klaus Koltermann.

The pastor from Dormagen had publicly criticized the Cologne Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki for having "gambled away any credibility".

Woelki has also been massively criticized by other Catholic bishops for months for holding back an abuse report commissioned by himself.

In return, he cites legal concerns.

The vicariate general accused the clergyman from Dormagen of serious violations of the official duties of a senior pastor after his critical statements in a newspaper report.

His comments could "result in measures", had written personnel manager Kolb in an earlier letter to Koltermann.

According to the newspaper, the Dormagener had taken a position and relied on his conscience.

With his criticism he only brought up the concerns of the faithful, according to the "Kölner Stadtanzeiger".

In his reply, Kolb now writes: "Because of the explanations you have given, I have no further inquiries."

He also offered him a personal interview.
