Police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) picked them up as they broke into an empty apartment.
Three men were arrested on Saturday shortly before 9 a.m. in the Bellefontaine district in Toulouse.
Officials were then notified by radio that a disabled woman had been the victim of a theft at her nearby home shortly before.
The arrested trio were carrying jewelry and other items that turned out to belong to the septuagenarian.
One of the men also threw a knife when he saw the police.
This weapon had been used to threaten the old lady who was in her bed, while the accomplices of the aggressor took possession of her property.
A trio already known to the police
The loot could have been more substantial if the victim had not succeeded in triggering the remote assistance device, intended for the elderly and / or disabled living alone.
The voice on the line scared the thugs away.
Aged 33, 28 and 17, known to the police, the three men were referred to the Toulouse public prosecutor's office and were to be tried on Monday in immediate appearance.
