Behind were the Oberbergische Kreis with 244.8, the Recklinghausen district (228.5), the cities of Gelsenkirchen (227.2) and Bottrop (225.4), as well as the Minden-Lübbecke district (223.9) and the city of Bielefeld (211.6).

The number of new infections reported to the RKI within one day was 1796. The total number of corona cases registered in NRW increased to 429 506. In addition, the number of deaths with or with corona rose by 36 to 7978.

The districts and urban districts in which the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants exceeds the 200 mark within seven days can order additional protective measures in agreement with the NRW Ministry of Health.

The national average of the seven-day incidence was unchanged at 150. The Coesfeld district had the lowest value at 73.9.

An interpretation of the data remains difficult because around Christmas and the turn of the year, according to the RKI, corona cases were discovered, recorded and transmitted with a delay.
