Wuppertal (dpa / lnw) - The Wuppertaler Stadtwerke are testing the suspension railway, which is currently heavily restricted, for three weeks.

The Stadtwerke (WSW) announced that test and training drives have been planned every weekday morning since Monday.

Currently, passengers can only ride on the weekend due to mysterious damage to the route, and tests have only been carried out on Fridays.

Since August, the suspension railway has not been available to passengers on weekdays; buses run instead.

The 120 year old means of transport had suffered a series of damage.

The work on the scaffolding and running rail continued, according to the WSW.

Initially, no information was given as to when the work could be completed.

In the spring, when the cars were hardly occupied due to the corona, the mysterious problems arose.

The residents were amazed at the unusually loud car.

Vibrations increased.

Instead of a year and 60,000 kilometers, the wheels of the railway were already worn after four months and 20,000 kilometers.

The damage to the rails skyrocketed.

The 13-kilometer suspension railway is not only a symbol of Wuppertal and a tourist attraction, but also the backbone of local transport in the densely built-up industrial city.

Normally, more than 80,000 people use the suspension railway every day.
