  • The left-wing citizen movement Nantes en commun is recruiting a dozen students to launch the Nantes Institute for Studies and Action.

  • Objective of the six-month training: to learn "to act on the world and to change it".

While confinement seems to further complicate the relationship of young people to their studies, a rather special school is preparing to open its doors in Nantes.

In two weeks, a dozen students between 15 and 25 years old will return to INEA, the Nantes Institute for Studies and Action, in order to learn "to act on the world and change it".

Please note: the six-month training course, accessible at free price and without any particular qualification, does not issue any recognized diploma and only has associative status.

"The students will leave with a base of knowledge and a political culture," says the INEA team, including Margot Medkour, candidate for municipal elections in Nantes in 2020. They will know how to act and have a real impact on the world that surrounds us.

"

Take concrete actions

Launched by members of the citizen movement marked on the left Nantes in common, Inea will offer a program of 20 hours per week, via five modules, between popular education and civic service.

Decryption of current events and studies of "action strategies" will give "keys" to students so that they can mount concrete actions in Nantes.

“It could mean giving the inhabitants a voice, creating a mobilization against an urban planning project, organizing a festival, etc., explains Fanny Maillet, in charge of the“ Learn to act ”course.

For all this, it may be necessary to know how to think up a communication plan, set up a website… ”

In addition to sessions led by external speakers (Zadistas, migrant support collectives, social and solidarity economy actors, etc.), a niche will be reserved for “personalized support”, so that students think about their future, between pursuit of studies or professional project.

"The last generation that can change everything"

These new volunteer trainers, most of them graduates in the humanities and social sciences, say they have acquired these skills more through their activist experience than during their studies.

And especially during the last municipal election where Nantes in common, a newcomer to the landscape, created a surprise by achieving nearly 9% of the votes.

If they assume the political vision which guides their approach, they want to address themselves to "the last generation to be able to change everything" which carries with it, according to them, a "need to engage".

According to the Inea team, six young people have already been selected to be part of the first promotion, including an 18-year-old baccalaureate.

Interested candidates have until next Monday to come forward.
