Hechingen (dpa / lsw) - First the alleged fraudster tried non-existent protective masks, then he switched to protective gloves and stole two million euros.

The Hechingen public prosecutor's office has now brought charges against a 31-year-old man for fraud.

His wife is accused of aiding and abetting, as the prosecution announced in Hechingen on Monday.

The 31-year-old from Albstadt is accused of having sold himself to a network of several companies as an expert mediator of medical products after the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

The man took advantage of the corona-related large need for protective products in early summer 2020 to initiate a fraud model.

After a first business with FFP3 protective masks had failed and he had accumulated six-figure debts, the man is said to have planned the fraud with protective gloves with an accomplice operating from Turkey.

The money ended up in an account in Turkey, where the accused and his wife are said to have withdrawn it.

The 31-year-old is in custody in Germany.

When the police seized it, numerous luxury watches and jewelry as well as cash were seized.

Most of the money has not yet been found.
