On Monday, Cuba condemned what it called the "political opportunism" of the outgoing US President Donald Trump's administration, shortly after it was re-included in the list of "states sponsoring terrorism."

"We condemn the cynical and hypocritical declaration of the United States to designate Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism," said Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez in a tweet. Everyone is sincere in his fear of the scourge of terrorism and all its victims are aware of the political opportunism of this act.

On Monday, the US administration announced, 9 days before the end of its mandate, that it had re-included Cuba in the list of "states sponsoring terrorism" after the administration of former President Barack Obama had written it off.

In a statement, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, "With this measure, we again hold the Cuban government accountable and send a clear message: The Castro regime must put an end to its support for international terrorism and the sabotage of the American judiciary."

Pompeo accused Havana of "repeatedly providing support to acts related to international terrorism by providing asylum to terrorists."

After this classification, Iran, North Korea and Syria will be added to the aforementioned blacklist, in return for Sudan being removed from them.
