Democrats on Monday tabled an indictment against Donald Trump in the House of Representatives.

This is the first step towards the formal opening expected this week of a second impeachment procedure against the US president, whom they accuse of having "incited the violence" which hit the Capitol.

At the same time, the Democrats, who control the majority in the House, introduced another resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to remove Donald Trump from office, invoking the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution.

A Republican opposed its immediate adoption unanimously.

A plenary vote is expected to take place on Tuesday.
