  • A delivery man from the British company Deliveroo allegedly refused to take orders at two kosher restaurants, explaining that he did not want to serve Jews.

  • Following these incidents, several complaints were filed, against the deliveryman but also his company.

  • "The investigation is underway to identify the accused," said the Strasbourg prosecutor

“Oh no, I don't deliver to Jews.

This is what a Deliveroo delivery man would have replied on Thursday, January 7 to two restaurant owners from Strasbourg, according to lawyer Raphaël Nisand.

The two filed a complaint, as well as the Israelite Consistory of Bas-Rhin.

"The investigation is underway to identify the accused," said the Strasbourg prosecutor.

In these two Kosher Strasbourg restaurants, "it's a bit of the same scene that is described by restaurateurs: they prepare the order and the delivery man asks:" What's your specialty? "

The restaurateur replied: "These are Israeli specialties", and the delivery man then said: "Oh no, I do not deliver to the Jews" and cancels the delivery ", explained Me Raphaël Nisand.

Complaint against Deliveroo

The lawyer also lodged a complaint on Sunday, both against the delivery man but also against the company Deliveroo, on behalf of the Israelite Consistory of Bas-Rhin and the National Office for Vigilance Against Antisemitism (BNVCA).

"The Israelite Consistory of Bas-Rhin considers it intolerable that delivery men working for the company Deliveroo dare to openly practice anti-Semitic discrimination," reacted in a statement Maurice Dahan, the president of the Consistory.

Deliveroo said Monday that it had contacted the restaurateurs concerned.

"We take this incident very seriously and immediately decided to conduct our own internal investigation, to clarify these circumstances," responded the company in a written message.

"If the facts as they are reported are proven, we will act and put an end to the contract of the responsible delivery person," adds the meal delivery platform, declaring to have "no tolerance for anti-Semitic words or actions, which constitute a criminal offense, and condemn (er) any act of this nature with the greatest firmness ”.

The investigation was entrusted to the Departmental Security.
