January 11, 2021 The number of cases of infection from Covid-19 officially registered in the world since the beginning of the pandemic has exceeded 90 million, of which 49.9 million recovered.

This was announced by the American University Johns Hopkins, which also reports 1.93 million total deaths related to the new coronavirus.

The United States, with 22.4 million infections and 373,000 deaths, leads the ranking of affected countries.

India and Brazil follow.



In the US, more than 100,000 hospitalizations a day


The United States has recorded 213,905 new coronavirus cases and 1,814 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

The overall toll of the pandemic in the country is now 22,406,816 infections and at least 374,322 deaths.

As for vaccines, 22,137,350 doses have been distributed to date: of these, at least 6,688,231 have already been administered, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.



For the fortieth consecutive day, the hospitalizations of patients affected by Covid-19 in the United States have been more than 100,000.

According to the Covid Tracking Project, hospital admissions were 129,229 yesterday, the sixth highest number recorded so far.



First case registered in Micronesia


The Federated States of Micronesia have registered the first case of Covid-19 in the country.

In a televised speech to the Nation, President David Panuelo admitted that the news was "alarming", but called on citizens to "keep calm".

"Don't panic, because the situation is under control," he said.

Micronesia was one of the last countries in the world spared from the coronavirus, one sailor on a government ship, the 'Chief Mailo', who was sent for repairs to the Philippines, tested positive.
