Regensburg (AP) - VfL Bochum has exploited the point losses of the promotion competitors in the 2nd Bundesliga.

After the draws between Hamburger SV and Holstein Kiel and the defeat of SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Bochum won 2-0 (0-0) at SSV Jahn Regensburg on Sunday.

The eighth goal of the season by Simon Zoller (80th minute) and a fine free kick by Thomas Eisfeld (90th + 5) provided the late highlights in a long game with few highlights.

VfL moved past Fürth and Kiel into second place and is only one point behind leaders HSV.

A quick free kick by Robert Zulj was the starting point for Zoller's lead.

The Regensburgers who were surprised by this could no longer stop Zoller, who was sure to complete it.

The hosts were worried because Jan Elvedi was still on the ground after his previous foul on Milos Pantovic.

In the final phase, André Becker missed a big chance to equalize (85th).

The free kick of the substitute Eisfeld from 16 meters was the final point.

Before the break, the Bochumers made the game against defensively acting Regensburg, but missed the lead.

After the break, the host came out of the cabin more energetic, but was not absolutely necessary.

The cleverness of Zulj was ultimately decisive for the game.
