Holzkirchen (dpa / lby) - A 43-year-old woman from Munich was seriously injured in an accident when she tried to provide first aid.

In the accident on Sunday afternoon on the A8 towards Salzburg at the Weyarn junction, three vehicles were involved, as the Holzkirchen motorway police announced.

After a rear-end collision between two vehicles, the Munich resident stopped at the hard shoulder and went to the two vehicles in the middle lane.

For a previously unexplained cause, but probably because the scene of the accident could not yet be secured, a 73-year-old driver, also from Munich, crashed into the two stationary vehicles and squeezed the first aider between the two stationary cars.

The woman was flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter.

The 73-year-old and the occupants of the other two vehicles were also taken to hospitals.

According to the police, the damage to property amounts to around 40,000 euros.

The highway was closed for rescue and accident recording.
