Frankfurt / Main (AP) - Captain Manuel Neuer has been voted German national football player of the year 2020 in a vote by the DFB fan club.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper of record champions FC Bayern Munich received 57.8 percent of the vote and clearly prevailed against his teammates, as the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Sunday.

Second place went to Bayern professional Serge Gnabry, who received around 15 percent of the vote.

Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter (9.3 percent) came third.

A total of 1562 votes were cast for Neuer.

In 2020, Neuer won the championship, cup, Champions League as well as the national and international Supercup with FC Bayern Munich.

The European Football Championship was postponed to 2021 due to the corona pandemic.

A hacking goal by Gnabry in the 3: 3 against Switzerland in the Nations League was voted the most beautiful international goal of the year earlier this week.
