Riva del Garda (dpa) - The Tour de France of professional cyclists will most likely take place in 2021 without the German hope Emanuel Buchmann.
This year, the 28-year-old is aiming for a start at the Giro d'Italia instead of the Tour of France, as he said on Sunday at a digital media round of his team Bora-hansgrohe.
«The plan is for me to concentrate on the Giro.
With the tour route we decided that the tour wasn't really made for me, ”explained Buchmann.
The profile with many time trial kilometers and few mountain arrivals does not necessarily suit the tour fourth in 2019.
"I see the Giro as having a greater chance of getting into the front," added Buchmann.

The Ravensburger once again expressed his great career goal of finishing the tour on the podium - but given the route, 2021 is not the right year for it.
Instead, Wilco Kelderman could take on the role of classification driver for Bora-hansgrohe on the tour.
Germany's best top sprinter, Pascal Ackermann, cannot yet say for sure whether he will be allowed to start the tour.
This is what the 26-year-old Palatine said.
«The Tour de France is my big goal for me.
But you also have to say: the shape has to be right.
I say the strongest has to be at the start.
At the moment I'm on the longlist with a whole sprint train, ”said Ackermann.
The Upper Bavarian racing team has only eight places to offer for the world's largest cycle race.
The sprinter made his debut at the Giro d'Italia in 2019 and at the Vuelta Tour of Spain in 2020, and both performed very well.
Ackermann agrees with the profile of the 2021 tour.
"The tour has more opportunities than last year's Vuelta," said Ackermann.
It would be a “perfect start” for his first tour, added the professional cyclist.
Team boss Ralph Denk had assured the protégé that he would make his Tour de France debut at Bora.
