A

61-year-old

woman

died this Saturday and seven other people have been injured of varying degrees, including a child under 11 years of age, after a frontal collision between two vehicles traveling on the FV-2 road in

Tuineje (Fuerteventura).

The emergency services traveled to the place after the

Emergency and Security Coordination Center (Cecoes) 112

received an alert in which it was reported a frontal collision of two vehicles on the aforementioned road and in which there were several injured from various consideration.

The

Local Police

transferred the medical team from

the Gran Tarajal Health Center

to the scene of the incident

and members of the

Fuerteventura Emergency Department

released the occupants trapped in the vehicles so that they could receive health care.

The first teams from

the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC)

to arrive at the scene of the incident assessed a woman, an occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the accident, who was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle and who, after presenting a stop cardiopulmonary resuscitation, they performed basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers in collaboration with the healthcare team of the health center, although in the end they were unsuccessful and confirmed his death.

The SUC ambulance staff, who moved four vehicles to the site, assessed and provided the first assistance to the rest of those affected and, once they were immobilized, took charge of organizing their transfer to the hospital by ambulance and aboard the rescue helicopter.

The helicopter of

the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES)

of the Government of the Canary Islands collaborated in the transfer of one of those affected to the heli-surface of

the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.

Likewise, the

Civil Guard

instructed the corresponding proceedings and regulated traffic on the road.
