Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - In view of the spread of the corona virus, capacities in the Hessian hospitals are becoming scarcer.

The situation with the intensive care beds is "very tense," said the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs to the German Press Agency.

Currently, around 89 percent of the care beds throughout Hesse are occupied.

“This is an extremely high value for the time of year.

Nationwide, we are preparing for a further increase in the number of intensive care patients. "

The ministry also sees a tense situation in the normal wards of hospitals.

Here, the countrywide capacity utilization is around 76 percent.

This is also a high value for the time of year.

If more and more patients visit the clinics after Christmas, “the workload will increase in the foreseeable future,” it said.

There are now first signs that the number of patients is stagnating at a high level.

"However, it is still too early to speak of a trend reversal," it said.

The supply areas Wiesbaden-Limburg and Darmstadt are particularly affected by bottlenecks.

In order to relieve such “highly stressed” supply areas and to avoid hasty relocations, patients would be relocated preventively.

"So far we have been able to avoid relocations due to acute overcrowding."

Overall, the supply situation in the individual regions is very different.

With the general decree published on January 7th, the hospitals received new guidelines for the provision of normal beds.

"The aim of this measure is to guarantee the supply in the respective supply area and to be able to avoid further relocations," it said.
