Hamburg (dpa) - Holstein Kiel has missed the return to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga.

In the north duel at relegation-threatened FC St. Pauli, coach Ole Werner's team scored 1: 1 (0: 0) on Saturday.

The greatly improved Hamburg team took the lead through a dream goal from winter newcomer Omar Marmoush (52nd).

Only shortly after being substituted on, Joshua Mees (62nd) managed to equalize.

The Kiel team remained unbeaten away from home by the draw, but could not benefit from the draw of leaders Hamburger SV at 1. FC Nürnberg (1-1).

The team is still one point behind after the 15th matchday.

FC St. Pauli has been waiting for a success for 13 games and is still on the penultimate place in the table.

Nevertheless, the hosts convinced - mainly thanks to the Wolfsburg loan from Marmoush.

The 21-year-old Egyptian was the most prominent player in his starting XI debut.

The offensive talent gave up the chance to lead early on (8th).

After the break, he hit with a heavy shot.

Shortly afterwards he could have increased it to 2-0, but failed because of Kiel's goalkeeper Ioannis Gelios (57.)

Four days before the DFB Cup game against Bayern Munich, Holstein showed the more mature playing system, but only had a few scoring opportunities.

After the deficit, it was Mees who headed St. Pauli's new goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic after a cross from Bartels.

After that, an open exchange of blows developed.
