Munich (AP) - The soprano Golda Schultz always suffers agonizing moments after singing well-known opera arias.
“The three seconds after the aria has ended are always the worst ever: do they clap or not?
Did I make it or do they hate me? ”Said the 37-year-old singer to“ Münchner Merkur ”(Saturday).
It was an almost unbearable tension after the last note and before the applause.
"You have just opened your soul completely - and now ...?"
One experience was memorable for her: “Once, I thought, I had given a lot.
The conductor was waiting and nobody applauded!
That was so embarrassing! ”Recalled the singer, who at the time had worried in vain.
"Later in the piece, a colleague passed me and whispered:" That was super nice. "
I was reassured then. "
Schultz now misses the audience all the more, for example at performances that are broadcast via live stream.
Normally there is a soul conversation between the audience and the performer.
"It is strange.
You give a lot of yourself, but you get nothing in return », she described her feelings.
"Now our energy is going out - and no answer."
Her next big appearance is planned for February 7th - then, according to the program, the native South African will appear at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich - as Agathe in the premiere of Carl Maria von Weber's opera “Der Freischütz”.
