According to the South China Morning Post, the Boeing 737-500 took off from Jakarta and en route to the city of Pontianak on the island of Kalimantan.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport, Adita Iravati, said the authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.

“At the moment we are investigating and agreeing on this issue with the search and rescue agency and the National Committee for Transport Safety. We will publish more information as we develop, ”she said.
