The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has completed the third phase of the lanes project for public transport buses and taxis, on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, with a length of 4.3 kilometers, and extends from the intersection of Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street with Al Mina Street to just before its intersection with Zabeel Street in both directions.

The lanes designated for buses were marked in red, and the project included the establishment of pedestrian paths, and air-conditioned umbrellas for bus and taxi users, in addition to road lighting works, the establishment of side parking, and cosmetic agriculture works, and the bus service and taxis on the track will be effectively operational on Thursday, the 21st of the month. During the coming period, bus drivers will be trained to use the track until the service is actually operational.

With the completion of the third phase, the total length of bus and taxi lanes will increase to 11.6 kilometers, distributed over seven vital streets, which are: Al Mankhool Street, Al Khaleej Street, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, Al Ghubaiba Street, Naif Street, Al Ittihad Street, and Al Mina Street.

Matar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Authority said: “The bus and taxi lanes project is one of the successful global practices that help motivate residents to use public transportation instead of private vehicles, and it is applied in many cities in North America and Europe. It aims to increase the percentage of adherence to bus timetables, encourage community members to use public transportation, improve taxi access, reduce direct and indirect operational costs, and reduce pollutant emissions, in order to achieve the strategic goal of Dubai integration and improve the quality of life, and achieve happiness for users. Public Transport".

He added: “The completion of the third phase of the lanes for public transport buses and taxis is the culmination of the great success of the first and second phases. Travel time is estimated at 24%, and it also contributed to raising the level of satisfaction of passengers, bus drivers and taxis, ”indicating that the number of bus lines that use private bus lanes is 40, of which 19 are bus lines that use the Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street route.

It should be noted that the authority implemented in a previous stage 7.3 km bus routes, which included parts of Naif Street, parts of Al Ittihad Street, Al Mina Street (from Kuwait Street to Falcon Intersection), Al Mankhool Street (from Al Satwa Roundabout to Sheikh Rashid Street), and Street Al Khaleej (from Al Khor Street to Al Musalla Street), Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street (from the intersection with Al Mina Street to Street No. 16), and Al Ghubaiba Street (from the intersection with Al Mina Street until Street No. 12)
